KIU, Main Campus - On 26th February 2020, the law students of Kampala International University (KIU) hosted the legal team from the Uganda Law Society (ULS), led by the Head of the Pro Bono Project, Anthony Asiimwe, whose purpose for the visit was to provide guidance on Pro Bono Services to law students.
Dr. Olugbenga Oke Samuel, Head of the KIU Law Clinic, in his opening remarks, said that it was an honour for the law students to be able to host experts from the field of law to come and sensitize students while exposing them to the services and activities they are supposed to do. In addition, he urged students to learn to provide legal services to the people in need.
Asiimwe held that, with pro bono services, lawyers should endeavour to ensure justice granted to the indigent, vulnerable, and marginalized persons in the community. He further advised students to not to wait till after graduation to register with the Uganda Law Society but to seize the opportunity as early as possible.
Students were also shown the steps to follow while registering with Uganda Law Society and also introduced to the Rule of Law in Uganda.
Due to the successful symposium on Pro Bono services, students were enabled access to inquire and know more about the services rendered by the Uganda Law Society, and also about the achievements a lawyer can get if he/she joins the society.
