KIU Law Society Postpones The Annual Law Dinner due to COVID-19

KIU Law Society Postpones The Annual Law Dinner due to COVID-19

KIU, Main Campus- On 17th March 2020, the KIU law society postponed The Annual Law Dinner previously scheduled for 28th March 2020 at Pearl of Africa Hotel, under the theme "Respect, Reputation and Results."

The postponement of the law dinner follows the health directive issued on 4th March 2020 by the Ministry of Health to suspend public gathering due to the Corona Virus (COVID-19) outbreak.

COVID-19 has no treatment and cure at the moment and is killing people in mass numbers. It is currently being considered a massive threat to Uganda as cases have been cited in the neighbouring countries of Tanzania, Kenya and Rwanda.  This has consequently led to the postponement of the law dinner.

Corona Virus spreads through being in congested gatherings and shaking hands with possibly affected people showing signs and symptoms of the virus including coughing, sneezing, or shortness of breath.

Nichols Agaba, Speaker KIU Law Society, says that it is almost impossible to organise for the dinner and require members and attendees to show present at such an event that is meant to gather up to 200 guests, considering the current and overwhelming statistics of the very deadly pandemic. He added that the absence of the guest of honour and other invited guests of high repute and significance in society will prove the event meaningless.

KIU Law Society, however, avails itself this opportunity to convey to the guest of honour, invited guests, students, and administration, its high consideration of health as a basis to build peaceful, just, and strong institutions.

KIU Law Society regrets highly for the inconvenience made.
